If you’re anything like me, I become a lover of all sports when the Olympics roll around. During the Rio Summer Olympics in August of 2016, I was watching everything I could. Was I ever invested in watching the 3000M Women’s Steeplechase before? No way. But, was I cheering in my living room when Emma Coburn won the first ever US medal in Steeplechase? Absolutely.
The 2018 Winter Olympics will take place in PyeongChang, South Korea, with the opening ceremony taking place on Friday, February 9th. Because of the time difference, the Opening Ceremony will be televised beginning at 8pm EST/5pm PST. This year marks the 23rd running of the winter games with the first winter Olympic games held in Chamonix, France in 1924. Only 16 countries participated with a total of 258 athletes in 16 different events. Compare that to the stats from Sochi in 2014, 90 years later: 88 countries with 2,780 total athletes in 98 different events. My how times have changed!
Maybe you can’t fly PyeongChang, South Korea to watch the Olympics in person, but with events airing on TV (check your local listings for NBC and their affiliates), you can watch some events live and catch the highlights of others from the comfort of your own home. Do you know what you can do all the time from February 9-25 that doesn’t require a plane ticket? Represent the USA is every way you can! Find throwback jackets and shirts at your local thrift shop. Hang a flag behind your couch. Make the Olympic Fanfare your ringtone. No matter how you show it, show your support in any and every way you can.
When it comes to socks, GoBros goes for the gold. We carry many of the top brands such as Darn Tough, Smartwool, and Thorlo, just to name a few. With the Olympics just around the corner, we have compiled a list of our most American socks, from no-shows to knee high.
